CLASSES
The school runs year round with an enrollment of 25 - 30 weavers each semester. Although most weavers live in RI and nearby CT and MA, occasional weavers from across the country come to study a specific topic in depth. Over 400 weavers have studied at the school, with many of them continuing for several years.
Instruction is individualized for beginners to advanced students, with each student weaving projects of choice. Instruction includes designing the project, warping the loom and weaving. Most work is on 4 - 8 shafts, and there is a strong emphasis on traditional weaves, Scandinavian weaves, and the works of Weaver Rose and Bertha Gray Hayes, as well as design and weaving theory. The library houses some 2000 volumes of books, sample books and journals. The school provides an environment that fosters inspiration, learning and networking with other weavers.
There are three classes a week for 15 week semesters, year round:
Monday evenings 7:00 - 10:00 pm
Tuesday mornings 9:00 - noon
Thursday mornings 9:00 - noon
Occasionally students may choose to concentrate on a subject of choice for a one or two week course, meeting five days a week from 9:00 - 4:00.
